How to Find Out If My Refund Check Will Be Garnished for Child Support in Texas
The Texas Child Support Division uses certain enforcement measures to collect arrears owed by non-custodial parents. A non-custodial parent does not live with the child the majority of the time, and is ordered to pay child support to the other parent. Enforcement measures used by the state of Texas to collect back child support include tax refund offsets, or tax refund garnishments. When an offset occurs, all or a portion of your tax refund is intercepted and sent to the Texas child support unit and applied towards your past-due balance.
Instructions

Call 800-304-3107. This is an IRS number you may call to verify the status of refund offsets attached to your tax account. You do not speak with an IRS agent when you call this number.
2Follow the voice prompts. Select your language preference and enter your Social Security number.
3Listen to the automated message concerning debt under your Social Security number. If your refund will be garnished for Texas child support arrears, you will hear a message that there is a debt indicator on your account and that your refund will be sent to the Texas Child Support Enforcement unit. You'll be given a phone number to contact Texas child support with further questions. If your refund will not be garnished, the automated system tells you there are no debt indicators for your account.
