How to Remove IRS Liens in Texas

If the IRS sends notice that you owe money, you have ten days to pay. Failing to pay after the ten days' notice will result in a tax lien. This means that the government is placing a lien, or a charge, on property of yours in order to satisfy the debt you owe. Eliminating the liens vary from state to state, and, in Texas, it might be different than Florida. It's best to follow the state laws where the lien was placed, in order to keep yourself out of debt and worry-free.

    Wait out the lien. It's not the best option, but for some, it might work. After ten years, the lien becomes unenforceable, but the IRS will more than likely act upon it in a timely manner. The only downside is that if the lien is extended, the lien will show up on your credit report forever.

    Contact your branch of the IRS to determine how much you owe and pay the lien in full. To locate or contact your branch within the state of Texas, call 1-877-777-4778. You will receive a certificate of payment and your credit report will be cleared of any liens that have been resolved.

    Submit an "Offer in Compromise" (OIC) if you can't pay the lien in full. Contact your local IRS office and offer an amount that is less than what you owe. From there, it's up to the IRS to accept or reject your offer, depending on how well-calculated it was. To help with the OIC, contact a tax attorney, a certified public accountant or an enrolled agent to determine your offer amount.

    Refinance or sell your real property. You can get your lien tax lifted for a short period of time so you can refinance/sell in order to pay back the tax lien. Since this is a temporary relief, consult a tax relief professional, such as an IRS tax attorney or an accountant.
