How to Amend a Corporation's Tax Return
Similar to the tax laws that apply to individual income tax returns, corporations are required to file corporate tax returns. While individuals can file IRS Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, within three years from the date they filed their original tax returns, corporations must file IRS Form 1120X, Amended U.S. Corporation Income Tax Return, within three years from the date they filed their original corporate tax returns. Because of the complexities and nuances involved in corporate tax law, corporations should request professional tax assistance from attorneys who specialize in corporate tax laws.
Instructions

Download an IRS Form 1120X, Amended U.S. Corporation Income Tax Return from the official IRS website. You can also order a paper copy of the form at no cost.
2Enter your corporation's name, address and employer identification number.
3Attach any supporting documents, substantiation or schedules to your Form 1120X. You need supporting statements if you are amending your corporate tax return to take advantage of a business credit you originally overlooked.
4Sign and date your amended corporate tax return. Under federal law, only authorized corporate officers can sign corporate tax returns on the corporation's behalf.
5Assemble your amended tax return by attaching any supporting documents, your amended return and payment, if owed.
6Send your 1120X form to the same IRS Service Center where you filed your original corporate tax return.
